Malta Movie Tour
Medieval City, Rabat, San Anton Gardens & Valletta. (SE7)
Often dubbed as the Hollywood of the
Mediterranean many movies have been filmed in Malta over the years -
POPEYE, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS, GALDIATOR, TROY, MUNICH etc However, one
of the most famous productions was GAMES OF THRONES first season.
Our tour includes a combination of sightseeing at locations which
have been used during the filming of Movies and Games of Thrones.
We start with the old town of Rabat and the medieval city of Mdina.
From Rabat we will take a short stroll from the central piazza (a
scene featured in the 2005 movie 'MUNICH') and along the historical
main street where you can admire the old houses, alleys, traditional
balconies amongst other typical old town characteristics. This short
stroll will bring us to Mdina. As you enter the main Mdina gate get
your cameras ready, you will be entering the location used as 'Kings
Landing' during Games of Thrones first season. Besides the usual
walking tour of Mdina, it is interesting to know that Mdina was also
featured in the movie GLADIATOR (2000), COUNT OF MONTE KRISTO (2002)
amongst others. Mdina is our old capital and today it is also
referred to as the Silent City since it inspires tranquillity at any
time of the day or night, except when they are filming movie!. The
only way to really experience and enjoy this city is on foot,
explore the quaint alleys, narrow streets, ancient buildings and
magnificent far reaching views from the high bastion walls.
We head back to Valletta. Here we will start at the Upper Barraka
Gardens, your guide will mention many movie productions that have
used our famous harbour or one of the surrounding fortified
locations such as Forst Ricasoli, which you can see in the distance.
This fort has hosted the likes of GLADIATOR, where they built the
actual gladiators arena, AGORA (2008), TROY (2003) amongst many
others. We continue through some of the old streets from which
scenes during certain movies can easily be recognised, including
WORD WAR Z (Brad Pitt), MUNICH (a fantastic explosion scene) and THE
DEVILS DOUBLE (2011). If we some time to spare your guide will take
into central Valletta.
