Malta Classic Small Group Tour
7 to 8 hour tour

This wonderful tour covers three different periods of Malta's golden history, amazing scenery and typical villages.

We start our day with a visit to the south of the island and an opportunity to experience a little local culture at the pretty traditional fishing village of Marsaxlokk. We stop at this quaint village which is characterized by low lying buildings and the colourful traditional fishing boats known as the 'luzzu', hundreds of them fill up the bay.

We continue with our tour en route passing through small local villages and some wonderful scenery including the stunning Valley of Zurrieq and the Blue Grotto. We have a photo stop at the Blue Grotto belvedere which offers a fabulous view of the huge 'grotto arch'.

We proceed to our next stop which will be the ancient site of Hagar Qim. Before entering the temple site we start at the new visitors centre where you can easily understand how these magnificent temples where built over 7000 years ago! We then continue with a short tour around this incredible ancient temple which has the largest and heaviest megaliths out of all the temple sites around the Maltese Islands, some slabs which form the outer wall weighing a staggering 20 tons.

We will then stop for a short lunch break (the cost of lunch is not included) before our visit to the medieval city of Mdina. Mdina is built on a plateau in the centre of the island, the cities old Baroque buildings, cathedral and magnificent bastion walls dominate the rural skyline. Mdina, once the capital of Malta until the modern city of Valletta was built had many names including Melita (Roman occupation), Medina (Arabic occupation), Citta Notabile (Knights of St. John) and Citta Vecchia (after Valletta was built). Today it is also referred as the Silent City since it inspires tranquillity at any time of the day or night. The only way to really experience and enjoy this city is on foot, explore the quaint alleys, narrow streets, ancient buildings and magnificent far reaching views form the high bastion walls.

Our final stop during the tour is Valletta. Valletta which was built by the Knights of St. John in 1565. Here we include the Barraka Gardens which offer stunning views of the Grand Harbour and magnificent fortifications, a walk down Merchants and Republic Streets where you can admire numerous historical buildings built by the Knights including the Auberges, the Grand Masters Palace and the St. John's Co. Cathedral. We also include an internal walking tour of the cathedral which was the church of the order and also home to Caravaggio's masterpiece "Beheading of St. John" amongst other treasures.

At this stage our tour comes to an end and we make our way back to the port.

!Note St. John's Co. Cathedral is not open for tour groups on Sunday's and Public Holidays. This means that we will replace it with the Grand Masters Palace instead. This tour does not include time for a boat trip of the Blue Grotto, only a photo stop from the view point.
